Why BIMS?

It is mandatory for everyone (regardless of vaccination status) to take a PCR test no more than xxxxx days before boarding your flight to Jamaica. For latest information on travel guidelines, refer to the travel advisory from Jamaica at xxxxx.

A PCR test will be done on arrival and you should be prepared to wait in quarantine till your test report comes. Your vaccination status and PCR test results will determine your quarantine period.

Fully-vaccinated travelers
To be considered fully vaccinated, at least two weeks should have elapsed since the second vaccine dosage. You will get your PCR test report in xxxxx hours. If report is negative then quarantine will end immediately. If positive, then quarantine will be 14 days followed by a repeat Covid-19 test.

Partially-vaccinated/non-vaccinated travelers
You will get your PCR test report in xxxxx hours. If negative then quarantine will end after 7 days from arrival. If positive, then quarantine will be for 14 days followed by a repeat Covid-19 test.

Novel coronavirus is known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe illnesses, such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Covid-19 is the most recent form of the virus.

How can I stay updated on COVID-19?

You may read up on Covid-19 and seek updated information from the websites of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Do face masks provide protection from Covid-19 infection?

Experts advise use of a face mask to avoid being infected especially when in a crowd and where social distancing is difficult.

Will BIMS provide face masks?

Yes, face masks will be available to all on the BIMS campus.

How does Covid-19 spread?

Covid-19 can spread through respiratory droplets from an infected person when he/she sneezes or coughs.

What should I do to minimize my risk of infection?

Maintain social distancing of about 6 feet, wear a face mask when outdoors and among people and sanitize or keep washing hands.

What if I am at a higher risk of complications from COVID-19?

According to the WHO, those who have co-morbidities are more at risk of contracting Covid-19. Such people should be fully vaccinated as early as possible. However, a fully vaccinated person can still be at risk therefore precautions are a must and all Covid-19 protocol should be strictly observed at all times.

What precautions are in place at BIMS to prevent exposure to COVID-19?

In keeping with the guidelines of the country’s Ministry of Health, the management at BIMS has worked diligently to ensure that strict Covid-19 protocol is followed. Measures taken include:

Regular sanitization of the campus
Sanitizing stations throughout the campus
Availability of face masks for all
Restricted entry to non-BIMS visitors
Facilities for Covid-19 testing on campus
Separate clinic for safe evaluation of suspect Covid-19 cases
Easy access for students to Covid-19 guidelines and updates

Will I need to have taken both vaccine shots before attending classes?

Yes, all students will have to be fully vaccinated unless otherwise specified for medical reasons in which case supportive documents should be presented. Non-vaccinated students will not be allowed to attend classes. Family members who accompany you will also have to be fully vaccinated.

What should I do if I feel ill during quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19?

In case of an emergency call 911 and go to the hospital. Else you can call or email the BIMS clinic which will take a decision about your evaluation.
